Paola Ramos

Education:

Paola Ramos received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Florida International University.  She is a certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP®) and a Handwriting Without Tears® Level 1 Certified Handwriting Specialist.

 

Experience:

Paola Ramos has over 11 years of experience as a licensed Occupational Therapist.  She worked at Jackson Memorial Hospital for 9 years, which is a level 1 trauma center.  There she provided therapy to different age groups from new born infants in the NICU to the geriatric population. Diagnoses included orthopedic injuries, spinal cord injuries, stroke, traumatic brain injuries, short gut syndrome, Prader Willie Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Motor Coordination Delay, Autism Spectrum Disorders, PDD NOS, Asperger’s Syndrome, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, and hypotonia just to name a few.  Her treatment was delivered throughout all the stages of rehabilitation from inpatient to rehab to outpatient care.

 

She became passionate about working with children during her rotation in the pediatric rehabilitation facility at Jackson Memorial Hospital. After working 9 years at Jackson Memorial Hospital, she decided to primarily focus on helping the pediatric/adolescent population and their families to maximize their functional capacity and independence level.

 

As an occupational therapist she addresses delays/difficulties in areas of self-help skills/ADL’s, cognitive skills, gross motor planning skills, sensory modulation, handwriting skills, attention/concentration, fine motor skills, and social skills.  She is an advocate for family education, as she feels the children will benefit more from a team effort approach.

 

My inspiration:

Her inspiration came after working with the pediatric/adolescent population and seeing that she can make a difference in improving their quality of life through occupational therapy.
